Seton Academy offers a robust, faithful education philosophy based on the classical Catholic Education model. The foundation of the Classical Education approach is referred to as the 'Trivium'. The Trivium comprises three time-tested phases of learning.
Grammar Stage: Developmentally, children in the early grades possess an amazing ability to absorb and memorize content. It is during this stage where we focus on teaching young children knowledge introducing as much content as they can grasp.
Dialetic Stage: As student progress into higher grades, they naturally begin to question authority and want to know the "why" of everything - what is the logic behind it? During this stage, the focus is on using knowledge to teach understanding through logical thinking.
Rhetoric Stage: As students enter into their teenage years, they naturally become independent thinkers and communicators. During this stage, the focus is utilization of knowledge and understanding to teach wisdom and persuading others toward truth.
We use these elements in our Primary, Elementary and Middle School age groups in creative and engaging ways to address different learning styles.
Additionally, Seton Academy implements best practices from other proven educational models to
fully engage the students and help them succeed to their full potential. We recognize aspects of
approaches such as Montessori can significantly enrich students’ experience, engagement and
ability to learn. Therefore, Seton Academy implements creative, playful and exploratory
methodologies to enhance the learning experience and supplement the structured approach of the Classical Education model.
We believe this philosophy provides an exceptional experience for our students. It also allows our
faculty to provide opportunities to assist students who may be slightly behind grade level and to
provide more challenging opportunities for students exceeding grade-level expectations.
